Questions
Everything people ask before they push back
Short answers here; the long ones at a free consult.
What does the first consult cost?
Nothing. It’s half an hour with me, by phone, by video or at the office, Saturday mornings included.
Who pays your fee?
In lemon law and debt collector cases, usually the company: those laws make a company that broke them pay the consumer’s lawyer. Robocall cases I take for a share of what’s recovered. You’ll see which applies to you in writing before I start.
What if we lose?
You owe me no fee. Court costs, like filing fees, are covered in our written agreement, so before we file you’ll know whether you could owe any.
My contract says disputes go to arbitration. Is that the end of it?
No. An arbitration clause changes where the case is heard, not whether you have one, and in many consumer arbitrations the company pays most of the fees.
Is there a deadline to bring a case?
Yes, and it depends on the law and the claim. Some are short. Call while the details and the paperwork are fresh.
Will the company find out I called you?
Not unless you decide to go ahead. What you tell me at the consult stays between us.
Can you help if I already paid part of the debt?
Often, yes. A payment doesn’t excuse a collector who broke the law, and it doesn’t prove you owed the full amount. Bring your receipts.
Do you take cases outside Miami?
Most of my clients live in Miami-Dade and Broward. If your case is somewhere I can’t take it, I’ll give you names of lawyers who can.
Your question isn’t here? Ask me instead.
Send a line through the form or call. I’ll answer it myself.
